Hearing the Trumpet Sound In Your Home

If you are a reader of my blogs, you know I am passionate about the home. I am always exploring ways to make my home a greater reflection of the woman God has created me to be.

I embrace the scripture Psalm 139: 14 (KJV): “I praise thee, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made, marvelous are thy works, and that my soul knoweth right well.”

As I reflect about the beauty of who I am, I begin to recognize greater ways I can make my home a pleasing place of ministry.

I have encouraged you in previous blogs to infuse the five senses, (i.e.., what you hear, smell, touch, taste and see) as a creative pathway to make your home a sanctuary.

When I think about what I see in my home, my spirit rejoices. I have selected decorative tools that have meaning, tell a story, and make my home special.

I love decorating with musical instruments. I have African drums, a flute, guitar, violin, maracas, and my beloved trumpets. I have found these unique treasures at antique shops, yards sales and even a recycling plant.

Trumpet Biblical Significance

I have always been fascinated with trumpets, but my interest is always illuminated when I see the word trumpet in the bible. I was amazed to learn there are more than sixty biblical references about trumpets.

The bible discusses two types of trumpets; the shofar (a ram’s horn) and the silver trumpet. Anyone, whether a watchman, herdsman, etc. could play the shofar, but only the priests could play the silver trumpet.

In the Old Testament (Isaiah 18:3, Ezekiel 33:3-7, and 2 Chronicles 7:6) trumpets were used to give messages, commands, and signals regarding great celebrations, the beginning of war, and other warnings regarding our disobedience to God’s word.

The first reference to trumpets in the Bible, Exodus 19:19 says: “And when the voice of the trumpet sounded long, and waxed louder and louder, Moses spake, and God answered him by a voice.”

It is significant that the “voice” of the trumpet was coming not from man but from God at Mount Sinai, when the Lord gave Moses the Ten Commandments for His people.

I encourage you to read Numbers 10: 1-10 to learn about God’s direction to Moses regarding the making of the two silver trumpets, and the messages relayed to the people.

A special warning is given to us in Isaiah 18:3 (NLT): “All you people of the world, you live on the earth, when a banner is raised on the mountains, you will see it, and when a trumpet sounds you will hear it.”

The last reference in the Old Testament to trumpets refers to God’s trumpet. “And the LORD shall be seen over them, and his arrow shall go forth as the lightning: and the LORD God shall blow the trumpet, and shall go with whirlwinds of the south.” Zechariah 9:14 (KJ)

Trumpet Implications For Making Our Home A Sanctuary

Ultimately, the trumpet symbolizes our covenant with God. When I look at my precious trumpets, they bring me peace and joy. They are a symbolic reminder of God telling me to hear His voice with clarity and distinction.

Silver trumpets mentioned in the bible were always beautiful and meticulously shined. This should be a constant reminder to keep our soul and spirit “shiny.” It is imperative that the pollution of the world does not tarnish our soul.

Unfortunately, we cannot live in this world without being tarnished. However, we are always reassured that God loves and forgives us, and is always ready to make us brand new.

Romans 12:2 reminds us to be transformed by the renewing of our mind. You must remember to rid yourself of negative thoughts. If not, worry, doubt, and anxiety will drown out your ability to hear the trumpet sound.

When you manage your mind and thoughts, this brings peace, confidence, strength, security and serenity. Whenever you achieve this state of mind, you will begin to enjoy yourself and your home.

Listening To An Award Winning Trumpeter

One of my favorite trumpeter’s is Phil Driscoll; a musician, singer, producer and composer. I encourage you to take a moment to relax and enjoy listening to Phil Driscoll’s rendition of “Because He Lives,”

As I listen and watch him play the trumpet, I appreciate his gift of breathing life and spirit into this precious instrument.

*Are you breathing life and spirit into your soul?

I hope you, too will become even more fascinated with the anointed trumpet sound, and the message it is sending.

As you share the gift of hospitality during the coming holiday season, hopefully you and others will hear the clarion call of Jesus in your home. You should hear a trumpet sound that says welcome and God’s presence is here.

The bible assures us; we may hear the trumpet of God for the return of God is drawing near.

(1 Thessalonians 4:16)

*Can you hear the trumpet sound in your home?

*What is the trumpet sound instructing you to do?

*How can the biblical symbolism of the trumpet be incorporated into your home?

Enjoy the beauty of the trumpet sound!
