AWAKENING THE SPIRIT OF GRACE IN YOUR HOME
I love to talk with women about their homes, and how they transform them into a sanctuary experience. Every home is different and should reflect the soul and spirit of those who live in it.
I recently facilitated a discussion for women on the “Refreshing Signs of A Gracious Woman.” I was in awe of the women’s positive responses. Prior to this retreat, I wondered if they would perceive the concept of grace as “old fashioned?” Would it be applicable to today’s woman?
I was impressed with their understanding and commitment to becoming a gracious woman, regardless of the complexities or toxic environments they were experiencing in the workplace, home, family and community.
What is grace? It is a word that has many meanings, depending on the individual. Some see grace as a: (1) spirit (2) love and forgiveness and (3) others may see it as behaviors reflecting the fruit of the spirit (Gal 5:22-23).
Sheila Atchley in her blog, The Refreshing Signs of a Gracious Woman (Sept 2009) says a gracious woman is “intelligent, warm, generous, witty, thinks of others, is consistent, a Christian, but yet she is imperfect.”
The bible says God’s grace or favor is seen in our salvation. Ephesians 2:8 tells us: “for by grace you have been saved.” This blessing of grace is undeserved and unearned.
John 1:16 says: “and of His fullness have all we received, and grace for grace.” Ephesians 4:7 reminds us: “but to each one of us grace has been given as Christ apportioned it.”
Grace is a special blessing from God. If we are going to make our home a sanctuary, we must receive the gift of grace which God so freely gives to each one of us.
Becoming a gracious woman is a process and journey. You must awaken the grace within yourself.
You must consciously work on becoming “gracious.” Ultimately, you must define grace for yourself. Enjoy the gift of “grace” in its present moment.
If you allow it, grace will guide you to become the woman God has created you to be. But more importantly, grace can help you fulfill God’s purpose for your life.
Do you have a spirit of grace? If you are going to make your home “gracious,” you must have the heart of Christ. You must show love, empathy, support and compassion.
How can these characteristics be transferred to your home, to make your home a pleasing place of ministry?
Do you yearn for the spirit of grace to be reflected in your home?
Through grace God has given you a new life, which should be reflected in your home by (1) the atmosphere you create (2) how you treat and interact with others and (3) the behavior you exhibit. Your home should be a gracious place to live, one where people flourish and God is glorified.
You can speak and bring life into your home.
Are you positive, caring and loving?
Do those in your home enjoy having your around?
Do they feel inspired by your presence?
Do they see the heart of Christ reflected in your spirit?
If you have read any of my blogs, you know I am an advocate for using the five senses to make your home a pleasing placing of ministry.
Take some quiet time for yourself. Journal and reflect about the following questions:
*What do you see in your home?
*What do you hear in your home?
* What do you taste in your home?
*What do you smell in your home?
* What do you touch in your home?
Enjoy awakening the spirit of grace within yourself and transforming it your home.
Blessings,
